After the treatment, treat the area as a wound, keep it clean and hydrated.
After 24 hours you may use a very gentle unscented moisturizer with no alcohol, hydrating cream, or epidermal repair cream. Hydrating creams can be applied multiple times throughout the day. Avoiding sun exposure and applying sunscreen is crucial.
Avoid makeup until skin is fully healed.
After your fractional ablation treatment, you can expect to feel a slight sunburn sensation, this should fade over the next 1-3 hours. Your skin will also be a pinkish-red colour, and a bit itchy for 1-3 days.
After the redness fades, there will be a slight grid pattern, and you will be able to see the tiny dots from the laser where the skin was ablated.
While the skin heals, it will get a slightly darker haze which will heal, and fall off. This can last from a few days to 2 weeks.
Fractional ablation is not painful, it feels like a warm puff of air, and there may also be a slightly warm prickly sensation.
The only discomfort that a client will feel is the warmth for the 1-3 hours after treatment.
If the client is concerned about the treatment, we are able to offer a topical numbing cream to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.
The treatment works by delivering controlled laser energy to small, fractionated zones of the skin, creating microscopic injuries. This stimulates the body's natural healing process, leading to collagen formation and skin renewal.
Fractional Ablation is effective for treating various skin concerns, including wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, sun damage, and uneven skin tone. It helps improve skin texture and provides a more youthful appearance.
Fractional ablation is not ideal for all skin types, especially for those with darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick skin types IV-VI). The treatment can pose a higher risk of hyperpigmentation, scarring, and uneven skin tone in these individuals. Lighter skin types (Fitzpatrick I-III) typically respond better to fractional ablation, with fewer complications. However, advancements in laser technology, like non-ablative fractional lasers, can offer safer options for darker skin tones with proper precautions. It’s important to consult a professional to assess skin type and determine the most suitable treatment.
Downtime varies but is generally shorter compared to traditional ablative laser treatments. Most individuals can resume regular activities within a few days, although redness and peeling may persist for up to a week.
The number of sessions needed depends on individual skin conditions and treatment goals. Typically, a series of 3 to 5 sessions, spaced several weeks apart, is recommended for optimal results.
Side effects are generally mild to moderate and may include temporary redness, swelling, and peeling. These effects subside within a few days to a week. It's important to follow post-treatment care instructions provided by your skincare professional.
Good candidates are individuals looking to address signs of aging, sun damage, or scarring. A consultation with a skincare professional will help determine if Fractional Ablation is suitable for your specific skin concerns.
